Causby Classic at Casting for Hope Retreat Center

As some of you may know, Casting for Hope’s Executive Assistant for Communication is Tripp Causby.  He is a baseball and basketball player at Patton and one of my (John Zimmerman's) students and has probably been a judge for many of you before in your Casting for Hope events.  His father was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, in 2015.  Tripp and his brother Ty have been doing a number of fundraisers since then to raise dollars for ALS research.  But…Tripp is doing his graduation project on fly fishing with Jeff Konst as his mentor.  Tripp is partnering with HARK, Inc, a 501(c)3 nonprofit based in New Jersey that works with families battling ALS all over the United States, to host a fly-fishing tournament this fall on October 14 to extend his graduation project.  This will take place at the Casting for Hope Retreat Center's private water.  He and his brother are working with HARK on other projects later in the year and coming spring as well, such as a showing of Hark's documentary in Morganton.  This one-day, laid-back, no-pressure (except what you put on yourself) event, The Causby Classic Invitational, will be hosted at the Casting for Hope Retreat Center, and we hope that you’re as interested in supporting one of Casting for Hope’s finest and an invaluable asset to our organization in his effort to raise awareness and funds for ALS as you always are to support Casting for Hope!  I know you will be!

****This is a two-man team event.  Only one team member should enter.  This will help us with the draw.  Again!  Only one team member per two-man team should enter!  After you've entered, please simply e-mail me your partner's name, phone number, email address, and t-shirt size******

The entry fee for this event will be $250 for each two-man team ($125 for each person) and will be made to Hark, Inc, so it will be tax deductible to the full extent of the law.  You can learn more about Hark and their work here:  www.hark-als.org.  The entries will be capped at the first five to respond as five entries have already been submitted.  Your entry will get you lunch and an event t-shirt.

Similar to Casting for Hope’s Cherokee Classic, this event will feature each two-man team fishing four, one-and-a-half-hour sessions.  Both anglers can fish at the same time but will share one controller.  The event will be volunteer controlled, so all of your time will be spent fishing!  Across your time fishing, you will get to fish roughly half of the Casting for Hope Retreat Center’s Little Rock Creek!  All of the fishing will be done on Casting for Hope’s private trophy water, and we’ll get started at 8:00am that Saturday morning.  If you would like to arrive early and camp Friday night, the Casting for Hope Retreat Center grounds will be open for that opportunity—and if you’d like to stay over Saturday night as well and camp, the grounds will be open for four anglers at a time to fish all day Sunday…so we’ll have to fish in shifts for fun that Sunday, but you’re welcomed to make a weekend out of the trip.

This will be a tremendously fun day (or weekend!) of fishing for you and a friend at one of the best fisheries in western North Carolina (and I know one of your favorites!), and your participation will help remind families battling Lou Gehrig’s disease that they too have “an awful lot to live for” and support the efforts of a young man who has been an invaluable asset to Casting for Hope over the last few years.  It certainly bears noting that Casting for Hope got its start in just this same way—Taylor was wanting to hold a fishing tournament to raise some money for a cause near to him and we got moving.  Knowing you all, I know that you will respond positively!  If you can’t join us but would still like to contribute to the effort, please just let me know by e-mailing me at john@castingforhope.org
